White House Millennium Project (1999):
In 1999, the Renewable Nations Institute was selected to represent the White House Millennium Council for the Solar Light for Africa, the first faith-based project co-sponsored by the White House. Solar Lights for Africa (SLA) has installed over 2,400 solar lighting installations in the Republic of Uganda.
Solar Light for Africa installed the first solar array to power a rural health clinic in the Republic of Uganda. The installation became the model for universal healthcare facility electrification in the developing world and was utilized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Foundation (UNF), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to demonstrate "best practices" in rural healthcare facility electrification.
